(Photo courtesy of sector7gaugusta.com) This past Friday downtown all-ages venue Sector 7G celebrated six years of blistering shows in Augusta, Georgia. One can only imagine how many kids have passed through the metal door of Sector 7G in that time to witness the many bands that have traveled from all over the world to play the thin long building located near the corner of Ellis and 6th street but in that short six years the little simple venue has created a reputation as one of the South’s hottest venues to play. Despite badgering from authories and various groups, co-founder Nick Laws and his crew of 7G workers has manged to not only keep 7G afloat, but well above water.

Now just mere days after watching his child blow out six candles on its methaphoric cake…Laws will step back and place her in the care of current 7G soundman Bryan Levy.

Built on the anal business ethic of Laws and a revolving door of show promotors (the longest being Nick Mitcham), Sector 7G has done what previous all-ages venues (and many over 21 venues) have failed to do – thrive and grow. While an all-ages venue’s biggest downfall can be the yearly change in patrons as the underage crowds grow and move on to college or graduate into the bar scene, Laws and 7G have somehow managed to change and adapt with the constant change in clientel even seeing younger siblings take over spots left by older brothers an sisters. While bars thrive on bar sales, 7G has had to exist on a combination of promotors fees, space rental, and concessions. That the venue has succeeded so well is considered by many to be…a miracle.

Fans of the venue will surely be relieved that Levy is himself a piece of the original regime keeping hopes up that 7G will continue in a way that patrons have grown to love and cherish. Laws may be hanging up his “No Kicking People in the Face” t-shirt…but 7G…and his place in lokal music…will at least for now continue to grow.
