In the mid to late ’80′s few area bands could come close to matching the popularity of South Carolina rock trio Science Friction. With an ability to write infectious rock anthems and put on full tilt rock & roll parties, guitarist/vocalist Glenn Wise, drummer Bucky Brown, and the artist formerly known as Billy Sanders – bassist Billy s, took home many a battle of the bands trophy while doing something most rock bands at the time weren’t doing lokally – playing mostly originals.
A couple of week’s back Billy s called the Lokal Loudness loudline and by the end of the conversation an appearance at the Choice Awards was locked in. As planned, two-thirds of the band showed up to present the award for best new lokal artist which just happens to be called – “The Science Friction Award.”
During a conversation that evening it was revealed by Billy and Glenn that since their get together last year to interview for an edition of Verge/Lokal Loudness column “Reverberations” the threesome have been busy going through old video and audio and transferring them over to the digital format. Also revealed was something totally unexpected – the guys have been not only rehearsing old material but writing new material as well!
So…the stage has been set…keep an eye out here for news of when and where Science Friction may hit an Augusta stage again. It will be the first time in a long time and a party surely not to be missed!

I gave Billy a DVD copy of a show I recorded at The Post Office a while back. I also have some cool photos of them at a gig at The O.R. I’m looking forward to hearing these guys play again!
