Augusta Music History 101 – December 8, 1979

On this day in 1979 the song “An American Dream”, released by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and featuring Linda Ronstadt, hit the top 40 on the billboard charts where it rose for 19 weeks before peaking at #13. What does this have to do with Augusta music history?  Nothing unless you count the fact that the line “Augusta Georgia is just no place to be” is sung in the first verse.  Wonder what tune they’d be singing if they saw Augusta now?
