Reverberations

Augusta Music History 101 – December 14, 1979

Country music legend Waylon Jennings is the first person to perform at the brand spanking new Augusta Civic Center after Aerosmith has to cancel a scheduled performance the night before due to an illness to vocalist Steven Tyler.  The 8,500 seat venue would see many great performers over two decades plus including the Beach Boys, B.B. King,  Prince, Ray Charles, Elton John, and of course James Brown.  It would be renamed twice, once as the Augusta Richmond County Civic Center and in 2006 as James Brown Arena.
