Brenda Mae Tarpley, better known worldwide as Brenda Lee, is born on this day in Lithonia, Georgia.   At age 11 Lee would venture to Augusta to perform on a touring version of Red Foley’s ABC Ozark Jubilee in Augusta and less than two months later Decca Records would offer her a recording contract.  In the 60’s no other female had more charted hits than Lee and only Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, and The Beatles charted more.
