As reports continue this week on the ongoing discussion of the validity of Tomi Rae’s marriage to James Brown something new, interesting and not beat into the ground has emerged regarding the Godfather of Soul. No it’s not a new burial plot, and it’s not rumors that Brown is actually alive and well and living on a tropical island with Jim Morrison and Elvis Presley, but a brand new book by long-time area columnist Don Rhodes.
“Say It Loud!: My Memories of James Brown” is Rhodes’ second book detailing the life of a famous Augustan, the first being “Ty Cobb: Safe at Home”.
In this latest print release Rhodes, at one time a reporter for The Augusta Chronicle and Augusta Herald, offers up a large wealth of information compiled from personal accounts, court documents, old cassette recordings, video footage and newspaper clippings. Rhodes attempts to leave no stone unturned presenting the many sides of Brown no matter how good, bad or ugly.
While many books about James Brown have come out over the years, “Say It Loud!: My Memories of James Brown” may be the most correct accounting of one music’s most legendary figures.
