The nominee’s for this year’s CMA’s were announced over a pair of television shows this past Wednesday morning with Georgia artists making a super showing. Announced by four of this year’s nominees, five categories were revealed on ABC’s Good Morning America by Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift while the remainder of the 12 categories were announced during a special edition of CMT Insider live from Nashville’s Sommet Center by James Otto and trio Lady Antebellum. While Kenny Chesney grabbed seven nominations Georgia artists made a strong case with 13 total nominations including four for Alan Jackson, and single nominations for Jason Aldean and Trisha Yearwood.
Over half the nominations went to artists with close ties to Augusta.
Jennifer Nettles, who once made regular rounds as a solo artist and as part of duo Soul Miner’s Daughter through Augusta, was nominated for six VMA’s. One as songwriter for Sugarland single “Stay” and as part of Sugarland’s nominations for Entertainer of the Year, vocal Duo, Singer of the Year, Song of the Year, and Music video.
Two more nominations went to Lady Antebellum, featuring former Augusta residents Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, in the New Artist and Vocal Group categories.
