By now all of the world knows it’s true: On July 17th Christie’s Auction House will be taking bids on a ton of James Brown artifacts including awards, hip clothing, furniture, musical instrument, jewelry, etc. The memorabilia, know as The James Brown Collection, (what? no clever title like “Legacy of Funk Collection”?) is being auctioned off to pay climbing legal fees and $400,000 in overdue estate taxes. Looks like even in death Mr. Brown is gonna lose some of the jumpsuits of his back.
But anyway, with estimates for some items as low as $100-$200 it would appear that even we meager folk have a chance to display some Godfather stuff on the family mantle. A program from the auction has even already been posted on ebay.
Make sure you get a piece of the “Legacy of Funk” before it’s all gone. Hopefully those estate taxes get paid and we can finally get that James Brown Museum that will supposedly be build to meet the music pioneer’s request.
