Captain Jack Sparrow and Dirty South Saturday Comes to Augusta

So it seems that just in the mere blink of an eye that a small blip of Pirate Radio has come come and gone in Augusta this week by way of gangsta rap station 99.9.  Short story even shorter-FCC pulled in, home invaded, equipment confiscated, Jack Sparrow tried and hung.  Not that I even care about gangsta rap in the first place…I just wonder if the language was kept to “FCC standards” if it would have made a difference.  If only the FCC was able to put a Tipper Gore PMRC warning sticker on every radio station like they do on CD’s.  Well that actually drove up record sales in the ’80’s so Clear Channel may actually have a temper tantrum.  Folks, how about a simple notion.  Just start playing more GOOD music and have less commercial interuptions.  In a 24-hour day there must be some way to do that so “gangsta entreprenuers” won’t have to pop a (gangsta) rap in yo’ ass! Doesn’t this guy realize that real musicologists just don’t listen to the radio anymore?  God Bless America!

Now if you thought the Double Dirty CD release party a while back featuring Dirty Sons of Ireland and Joe Graves and the Dirty Left Hand was filthy then this Saturday Augusta is gonna get down right dirty as a New York landfill.  The DIRTY Dozen Brass Band hits the newly opened Sky City while the ages old Red Lion plays host to Dirty Sons of Ireland and Columbia punksters Dirty South Skallywags.  If you’re going to either one of these great shows perhaps a change of clothes might be in order.

If you’re looking for something a little less beer-soaked than I highly recommend going to Sector 7G to check out The Radar Cinema, The Burgundy Curtain and (no “The”) Suns Collide this Saturday.  It’s free and will be over just in case you ened up getting thirsty for some libations after all.

If you just can’t wait til the weekend and wanna rock, hang outdoors, drink cheap beer, and enjoy some Americana…well head on out to Olmstead Stadium tonight for a bit of America’s favorite pastime and great roots rock from 48VOLT.  Oh yeah…it’s also Thirsty Thursday so beers will only be a buck!

Anyway…have a safe end of the week…maybe I’ll see you around…have a dirty weekend!
