Funky Fotos with the Godfather?

According to a press release from the Greater Augusta Arts Council, you can now have your picture taken with The Godfather of Soul James Brown. Well, with the STATUE of James Brown that is. The Savannah River Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) along with the GAAC, who was awarded a grant from the Georgia Department of Tourism, will unveil the cell phone activated James Brown Camera at 6pm on Friday, May 2nd. Visitors at the statue will only need to dial a phone number, on a tasteful sign provided by the City of Augusta instructing fans what number to dial and how to retrieve their photo. The number will activate a camera that will transmit the photo to a James Brown Gallery on the Augusta Chronicle Spotted® Website and photos can be retrieved by visiting the GAAC website at www.AugustaArts.com.

GAAC executive director Brenda Durant expects the project to help introduce more people to the diverse arts culture found in Augusta. “If this project can get people to go to the GAAC website, then we have an opportunity to expose them to upcoming events and entice them to come back and enjoy what Augusta has to offer in the arts,” said Brenda Durant. “We expect hundreds of hits during the James Brown Birthday celebration this week-end.”

Project Manager Roger Duke, who assembled a team of PMI volunteers this past January specifically for this project, explained how teamwork was vital to the project’s success. “By collaborating with local corporate partners, RedWolf, the Augusta Chronicle and CSRA Security Solutions, the team was able to design and install this one-of-a-kind system in less than four months. It’s a unique application of the latest technology with great potential for creating interest in what’s going on in Augusta. What a great example of how PMI and good project management can help the community.”

Now visitors will be able to take a piece of Augusta’s “soul” with them no matter where they go!
