Wanna Rock the Augusta Canal?

As part of this fall’s Westobou Arts Festival the Augusta Canal will be hosting a week-long series of live music on the canal. The series will be similar to the Augusta Canal’s Friday Moonlight Cruises but with a few additional twists that will spotlight the Augusta Canal in a whole new way.

The Augusta Canal is looking for singer-songwriters to submit original songs based on the “history, scenery, moods, etc.” of the Canal. Artists whose submissions are chosen will perform the song, in addition to songs from their usual “repertoire”, during Westobou, September 22-26, on the Petersburg Boat. Five artists/groups will be selected with one being featured each evening.

Additionally arrangements are being made to record the songs for a CD tentatively titled “Going with the Low-Rhythm and Song on the Augusta Canal.” Selected artists will receive a $200 performance fee plus an addition $200 for the original music and rights to reproduce their original composition for the CD.

Interested artists should contact Rebecca B. Rogers at rrogers@augustacanal.com by April 4th. Additional info will follow with final selections being made on or about June 1st, 2008.
