And the Winners Are…

For the seventh consecutive year the Lokal Loudness Music Choice Awards were…well, CHOICE. A wall to wall gathering of artistic love, fun and community. Augusta’s own little musical family reunion, if you will. If Augusta music is a five-star entree then the love and respect amongst the music community would be the secret sauce that gives that little extra BANG! But then that’s what Augusta musicians have become used to and refuse to settle for anything less. The love and magic is truly within this fine community. The Choice Awards is merely a vehicle to bring the family together for one evening.

It was no surprise that 2007’s most heralded bands Edison Project and Veara pulled in the most award nominations (7 and 8, respectfully) as they ran neck in neck with accomplishment after accomplishment. It also surprised few that Edison walked away with awards for favorite song, cd and band as well as drummer and singer. On the other hand many in attendance were dumbfounded when the night ended with no awards going to the Veara camp. Despite final results both bands can be proud of all that they accomplished in 2007 and great things are to be expected in 2008. Not just from Edison Project and Veara but from all our nominees. We here at Lokal Loudness predict the biggest year ever for Augusta music in 2008. That should be everyone’s Chinese New Year’s resolution, if they have New Year’s resolutions in China. But before we blow up 2008, here are your Music Choice winners for last year:

Fave Drummer - Zach Swenson; Edison Project
Fave Bassist - Travis Petrea
Fave Guitarist - Michael Baideme; Sabo & the Scorchers
Fave Vocalist - Dave Firmin; Edison Project
Fave Instrument Misc - Pedro Castano; Electric Voodoo
Fave Christian Band - Joseph Christie Band
Fave All-Ages Band - Say Vandelay
Fave Female - Allison Foster
Fave Male - Nick Laws; Sector 7G, Radar Cinema, G-City Rockers
Soul Bar FFL Champion - Coco Rubio
Fave Song - D, C & Me by Edison Project
Fave CD - Do You Remember Rock & Roll by Edison Project
Fave New Band - Electric Voodoo
Fave Solo Artist - Will McCranie
Fave Band - Edison Project

Now sure you can always rely on Lokal Loudness to spill the beans on the winners but only attending the Music Choice Awards in person can provide you with the experience of the year’s great “family reunion”. The awards and winners may be impressive to some, but the performances are always off the chain and this time was no different. Shotgun Opera for one made some new fans with the constant comment of the evening being “where’d these guys come from?!?!?!” Edison Project, despite having to set up quickly and having to work with a closing time deadline, ended the night in explosive form for the second straight year while bands Dirty Sons of Ireland and Electric Voodoo got the crowd in a great party mood. Allison Foster and Jessica King kept the room warm and fuzzy and Say Vandelay jump started the night with an energized bulldozer of a set.

If you missed it and you have no excuse…shame on you. If you couldn’t help missing it then we can only say that we missed you and plan early for next year. If it’s anything like the past seven we may need to put extra bracing on the ceiling!

  2. Congrats to all the winners this year!
Sorry I missed the show ;O(..but am happy to hear of the great turn out!!

I know the papers normally promote these type of shows before the fact…I was wondering if anything had been done concerning follow up. The winners certainly deserve the recognition other than word of mouth!
