In December it was announced that downtown music venue The Mission would be closed during the month of January with a scheduled re-opening date of January 1st. After rebooking some of the previously scheduled January acts changes have now occurred that could affect the venues ownership thus pushing back the re-opening indefinitely.
A blog on the The Mission’s Myspace space reads:
“Dear Patrons and Bands,
As you might be aware, The Mission closed on January 1st to engage in renovation efforts. During the first week of January we were approached by buyers interested in purchasing The Mission. While there was no intention initially to sell the business, one potential buyer in particular made a great case for re-vitalizing the venue which we believe will result in the best long-term success for live music at The Mission and in downtown Augusta.
We are currently working through the terms of the agreement which we expect to close shortly and because of this the timeframe for re-opening is uncertain. As soon as the new ownership is in place a new re-opening date will be set and bands contacted for re-booking.
While we’ve enjoyed all of the great times and music at The Mission, we’re confident that better days are to come. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the uncertainty in re-open date.”
Sincerely,
The Mission

More updates as we get them in.
I hope the new owners are as easy and good to work with as Patrick and David were! They were always a class act!
Also on this topic, Capital Records artist HURT was scheduled to play at the Mission Feb 2nd. Due to the pushed back reopen date, HURT will be performing at the Red Lion Pub on the 2nd!
The events calendar has been updated to reflect the change in venue. Thanks, Guapo, for posting the new info.
I do wish the owners luck and hope the Mission will open soon with no problems. They have always brought top name entertainment we Augustans would otherwise have to travel to Atlanta to see.
With the economy in a shambles it is no wonder that any business is having problems just staying alive. Sacrifice after sacrifice will have to be made including US Augustans that want to go out and be able to see quality entertainment and not travel the miles.
So yes, I propose that we relax and pay an additional 5 to 8 bucks as we will be saving that in gas anyway….Of course this is contingent on the Entertainment quality. A minimum rise in the door rate might assure that The Mission comes back in full force.
So Listen up Augustans…stop the empathetic bullcrap…get concerned! Don’t put your money on the James Brown Let Down Center to bring top names.
